Your perfume is your signature scent. It is a type of subtle communication that carries your mood and presence even before you speak. Having their perfume unfold that way it should over the day is something that we all wish for. Of course, choosing the right perfume is important, but experts recommend applying the fragrance on specific areas of the body to maximize its effect.

Whether it is fragrance for women or men, there are specific areas of body where, when you apply the perfume, the notes unfold the way they should. And these areas are known as pulse points.

    What Are Pulse Points?

These are areas of the body, marked by the juncture of biology, chemistry, and sensory awareness, that enhance the perception of the scent.

These are specific points, where the blood vessels are closest to the skin and have numerous nerve endings, making them very sensitive. They emit more heat than the rest of the body. The body’s natural warmth combined with the fragrance’s components creates a unique aroma that is signature to only you.

How Are Pulse Points Most Effective?

The heat from the points helps diffuse the fragrance. It enhances the scent and longevity of the application. The heat breaks down the molecular structure of the perfume, turning the liquid into a gas and breaking down all the notes.

The same principle works for both fragrances for men and women, making the aroma more intense, balanced, and persistent all through the day.

The Main Pulse Points On The Body

Here is a small guide to pulse points on the body

    1. Neck: The carotid artery is on the sides of the neck, known for its natural warmth. It is one area where people notice the perfume first.  Apply the scent on the sides of the neck.
    2. Wrists: These are the most popular of pulse points. The fragrance releases over a long time. People can smell it on you when you shake hands, or are handing over the files, or are out with a loved one on a date.
    3. Inside of your elbows: A perfect complement to the wrist spritz. The inside of the elbows is very effective because the skin there is thinner. The scent unfolds evenly, smells stronger and lasts longer. Elbows help spread the scent around as it wafts through your clothes.
    4. Behind the knees: It sounds a bit unconventional, but your knees are a pulse point that will create an aura of pleasant scent all throughout the day. Whether you are wearing shorts or a pretty evening gown, a spritz behind the knees will keep the fragrance rising gently all throughout the day. Walking or dancing, this is a way to create an alluring signature of its own.
    5.  Your ears: They are the textbook place to create a fragrance trail. It focuses the scent on your face, and it is the ideal choice if you are headed on a date.
    6. Chest/Cleavage: Mist the perfume over your chest where you can feel the heartbeat and near the collarbone area. The warmth of the skin lets the scent come up slowly and gives you a full-body fragrance.
    7. Throat: The throat pulse point creates a halo of scent around you that is not very overwhelming but with discrete notes, and the scent lasts longer on your skin.
    8. Ankles: A very potent diffusion point which many miss, the ankle is a pulse point you should not miss. The heat will keep letting the perfume move up gradually as you walk around, leaving behind a trace of fragrance. And as a bonus, it distracts from smelly feet.

Difference Between Pulse Points For Men And Women

    Fragrance for women

The neck and wrists are the most popular pulse points for fragrance for women. When using summery scents, spray a little perfume behind the ears for a more captivating aura.

Women’s skin is softer, and hence floral and fruity fragrance for women unfold more easily and diffuse lightly. Put a bit of perfume on your hairspray and run it through your hair to tie up the entire fragrance persona together.

    Fragrance for men

For men, the pulse points are little different than those of a woman. Fragrances for men generally have woody and spicy notes. The inner jaw, neck, shoulder, chest, stomach, elbow, forearm, and wrists are the cost-effective points without creating a sensory overload.

Don’t miss out on the beard when using the perfumes for men; just spray a little bit on the hair directly to get a pleasant scent all throughout the day.

Additional Tips To Make The Fragrance Last Longer

The perfumes work best when they are applied correctly. Here are some things to keep in mind to make the fragrance last daylong.

    • Moisturize the pulse point before applying perfume.
    • Use matching skincare and other products for a subtle layering of scents.
    • Don’t rub the perfume on your skin, as it changes the scent profile.
    • Don’t apply on all pulse points. Adapt according to the season and occasion.  For example, in summers, focus on behind the knees, and inside the elbows, and in winters, the points of the neck and wrist, will help fully create the essence of the perfume.

    The Bottom Line

Understanding where to apply your perfume is the perfect way to create a lasting impression in all aspects of your day. The key to making your fragrance stand out is in understanding which pulse points to apply it on and when.
