There’s no arguing that Drake is one of the best rappers to ever do it. He has the hits, the album sales, Spotify streams, millions of fans, money, fame and everything in between. Yet, you could say that sometimes his songs take things a couple of steps further than necessary. There are plenty of people who call Drizzy weird. To an extent they are right. His songs are a testimony to his unique style, and it is a fact that is known for taking things overboard at times.

The only way you do not know or think this is if you haven’t been paying attention. Luckily, we have. In this article we’re going to take through some of Drake’s weirdest lyrics. Considering the number of songs the Canadian rapper released over time, it wasn’t too difficult to find the words that fit the ‘weird’ mould.

    1) I love thick women ‘cause my aunt she rode equestrian

Let’s start from the family section. It’s possible that it can’t get any weirder than this. These lyrics are from a 2010 song called In The Morning by J. Cole where Drake features as a guest artist, and in his verse he’s had this to say about his aunt. No listener was able to find a metaphor for what Drake was trying to say, so we’ve concluded that he was in fact talking about the body shape of his aunt. Funnily enough, the rapper never took an effort to put a meaning behind the lyrics. According to sources from Genius, his aunt was a horseback rider which aided in her conditioning and getting an athlete’s physique. It could also be a sports metaphor, as we all know that Drake is in love with sports and sports betting. It is a well known fact that the Drake Stake Ambassador gig lands him hundreds of millions yearly, as he is one of the biggest names representing the online casino and sports betting outlet, while also being one of their biggest high rollers.

    2) Free shmoke, free shmoke, ayy!

Yeah, Smoke Dawg from the song Free Smoke does not need to be released. He is not incarcerated, nor closed in any sense that would require freeing. For many listeners of this song, the idea that came up was that Smoke Dawg was locked up, and that the song is meant to support his release. A simple Google search would reveal that the man in question was never arrested, nor that he was sentenced to jail at the moment when the song was released. Instead, the man was with Drizzy all along even touring Europe by his side, making the entire song and not only the part where he asks for the man’s releases weird. Good people from genius described the lyrics as a form of Drake threats to all people who would do him harm, and in such a case, a retaliation would be in place on his behalf. In the end, it could be something that only Drake and his companies from Toronto could understand, similarly to his Stake.com wager on Jake Paul to win against Anthony Joshua. Drake can be weird and his lyrics and sports betting endeavours prove it day to day.

    3) I heard that one of ’em little kids might be Dave Free/ Don’t make it Dave Free’s/ ‘Cause if your GM is your BM secret BD/ Then this is all makin’ plenty fu**in’ sense to me

Drake took his beef with Kendrick Lamar seriously, and at the time we were all up for it. The song that features the lyrics from above, Family Matters, is one of Drake’s most controversial titles. Yet, while spot on in some verses, here, Drizzy took things too far, and made the beef a tad bit weird and made it easier for Kendrick to end it the way Compton rappers did. The diss track in question suggested that one of Lamar’s children was not his, but in fact belonging to his general manager and close friend, Dave Free. As we said, while the beef between the two rappers was ongoing it was nice seeing exchanging lyrical shots, but here Drake talked about matters that weren’t backed by facts. There was no evidence that could back up the claims he made, and in a way he took the stings from his shots, and as we said, made it easy for Lamar to strike the last chord.

    4) Late night like Left Eye, I’m creepin’/ Assuming the worst ’cause I haven’t heard from you all weekend/ Your silence is drivin’ me up the wall, up the wall/ I cannot tell if you’re duckin’ calls or missin’ calls

After Dark is a nice song, yet it has that strange aura about itself. As we said, Drake knows to take things a bit too north even for Canadian standards. For one, he almost has an entire album dedicated to ghosting. We are almost sure that there aren’t too many ladies or friends who would ghost Drake. So, talking about being a tad bit creepy on social media platforms, stalking, and checking the phone to see if they’ve answered doesn’t feel right for Drake and gives up that weird aura that some of his songs have through and through.

    5) How you goin’ vegan but still beefin’ with me again?

Drake is a funny dude. This kitchen metaphor hit a chord for some, but for some it left plenty to be desired. Desires is a weird song, and one of the corniest the rapper has ever released. The entire song is about the Six God not being able to understand why some women would look at any other man that’s not him. The worst part is that the lyrics themself are not overly original, not even by Drake’s own standards, as we heard something similar from 3OH! in a song called Don’t Trust Me. Drake? It’s weird seeing you copying other people’s ideas, and lyrics.

    6) Bills so big I call them Williams, for real

Yes, there are moments in Drake’s career when he stylistically and lyrically hit rock bottom. The song Nonstop from which these lyrics are fits that description. It is hard to explain and give credit to this bar. It is even harder to imagine that Drake raped this and that everyone on his production team was on the same page and got it released. On the first listen you could give it a pass, but only due to Tay Keith’s beat. Then, the more you listen and the more your focus shifts on Drake’s lyrics, the weirdness of Nonstop starts to kick in. It is a good thing that the entire album Scorpion was a letdown, so no one was left too focused on this particular song for too long, or we would have more bars to spit on.

    7) Get inside and bend a d*** like the pope

Yeah, there are better ways to make a point than to diss the head of the catholic church. What’s even worse is that Drake never explained this bar. To make things even weirder he was referring to late Pope Benedict. It’s nice for songs to have hidden meaning or some kind of a mystery but this verse is baffling. What Would Pluto Do promised a lot based on the song title, but in the end it failed to deliver despite some controversial lyrics. Drake has released dozens of worldwide hits that are listened to in years after their release but What Would Pluto Do does not fit into that category.

    8) My heart is way too frozen to get broken

Well, yes, the message did get through with this one. Yet, if you listen to Madiba Riddim on repeat you soon understand that Drake had his heart in the right place but that the delivery was not really spot on. Drake is known as being a lover boy and has had more than a few notable crushes that he dedicated songs to among whom J Lo and Serena Williams stand out, of course. While Drizzy will act at times that the past is behind him, it often comes back to bite him on the ass. So, if you think about it, a frozen heart is even easier to break than a warm one, right? Well, science will tell you that, but when it comes to matters of the heart, we’re going to take Drake’s word for it, even if he’s little of point here. After all, certified Lover Boy surely has a thing or two to say about broken hearts.

    9) I pull up in yachts so big that they try to hit me with boat fines

Champagne Papi is well known for his intention and eventual success to flex his fame and money. A song titled TKTKTK was intended to do this, but while it did it successfully to an extent it also failed in what it wanted to deliver. We’re not too deep into maritime business, so it is hard to know whether there are such taxations such as boat fines, and as people who do not own a yacht we also don’t know whether a yacht could be fined. For speeding maybe? Who knows. What we do know is that to release a song, it needs to go through multiple checkups before the final, production version is ready. It’s baffling that no one from the entirety of Drake’s team had a word to say about releasing this bar.

    10) I’m tryna give Halle Berry a baby and no one can stop me

Drizzy will not shy from controversy, especially when he has a famous love interest on his mind. Back in 2013 his weirdness hit another level when he released a song called Versace, which contained the verse: ” I’m tryna give Halle Berry a baby and no one can stop me.” It was a collaboration with Migos and we can say that Drake was pretty proud of this bar of his. Of course, Drake is not the only one who would have a go at Halle Berry but to be so blunt in your lyrics without ever explaining what he meant is quite out of ordinary. The two have also had a beef regarding a photo of Halle Berry which Drake used for one of his album covers, without the actress’ consent. People who have listened to Versace claim that it is actually a song about having se*ual relations without consent, which is something Kendrick Lamar accused Drake during their beef. While there’s no evidence of that it is more than evident that Drake has no respect left for Halle Berry who was his love interest for some time now.

    11) Tat on my ribs like I do not know what permanent is

Drake loves to elevate everything he does. A tattoo on the rib cage is not something out of the ordinary. Millions of people have done them. It is a trend from the past when it was a big deal, but it’s not anymore, you hear us Six God? These days everyone and their mother get tattoos on the ribs. Another aspect Drake missed is that we all know what it means to get a tattoo. It will not come off from a little scratch and water, and that it hurts when they pierce your skin. Yes, we know Drake has more than a few tattoos in the named area such as his Toronto area code 416, and a signed portrait of Sade. It’s his other tattoos that call to attention due to their lack of sense. This attempt by Drake to be manly and fragile at the same time backfired, but that doesn’t mean we have heard the last from Drizzy.

Considering that Drake is in the process of wrapping up his next release, an album titled Iceman, we’re sure that this article will have a couple more bars added down the line. After all, Drake can’t help himself, he loves to be cringe, corny, and weird. It must be why people love him so much. Never change Drizzy!
